Dr. Sharma Endorsed for Chief Justice’s Post

Parliamentary Hearing Committee has unanimously recommended Dr. Manoj Sharma’s name for appointment as the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court.

A meeting of the committee today unanimously endorsed his nomination. The committee conducted the hearing the same day.

After the hearing concluded, the committee decided to approve Sharma’s name for Chief Justice.

Parliament Secretariat will now forward the name to the Office of the President, after which his formal appointment will take place.

Earlier, the Constitutional Council had decided to appoint Sharma, currently fourth in seniority among six justices recommended by the Judicial Council, as the Chief Justice.

Leaders of the main opposition party, Bhishmaraj Angdembe, and National Assembly Chair Narayan Dahal has expressed disagreement with Sharma’s recommendation by the Constitutional Council.

Despite the dissent of two council members, Sharma’s nomination was finalized by the Constitutional Council.
