Dotyali Museum Established

The Dadeldhura Public Library has established Dotyali Museum, showcasing the traditional lifestyle, costumes and cultural identity of the Sudurpaschim Province. The museum has collection of historical goods from the Dotyali community.
Chief of the Museum, Pushkar Bahadur Deuba, said that the museum was established to preserve and promote the ancient heritages that are on the verge of gradual extinction in the society due to the impacts of market expansion and modern lifestyle.
“We wish to keep the goods used by the ancestors and make the new generation familiar with their unique identity,” Deuba added.
He shared that the clothes, jewelries, traditional weapons and goods of daily use of the past are being collected and kept in the museum.
The museum also has a collection of traditional agricultural inputs that depict the traditional agricultural system and rural livelihood. It has a collection of plough, rope, yoke, winnow, basket and others.
Kamdev Ojha, a resident of Amargadhi Municipality-5 in the district, said the museum with the collection of ancient jewelries and ornaments reminds the people of their social and cultural past.
The Amargadhi Municipality and the Taragaun Development Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation provided financial and other assistance for the establishment of the museum.
The museum officials are still collecting goods, and are visiting the rural settlements in the region to enrich the museum. (RSS)
