Dengue Larvae Found in 40% of Inspected Sri Lankan Schools

Dengue larvae were found in 40 percent of schools inspected by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health, according to an official from the country’s National Dengue Control Unit.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit Kapila Kannangara told journalists on Saturday that recent surveys have revealed an increase in the percentage of schools where dengue mosquito larvae were detected.
He said health authorities were continuing inspection and prevention campaigns to reduce breeding sites and limit the spread of dengue, which remains a major public health concern in the country.
Kannangara added that fumigation activities were being carried out at centers hosting the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) examinations to protect students and staff during the exam period.
Sri Lankan health officials have repeatedly urged schools and communities to eliminate stagnant water and maintain clean surroundings to reduce mosquito breeding and curb dengue transmission.
