Deadline for Parties to Register for Nepal’s Election Ends

The deadline for registering political parties for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5 has officially closed today.

A significant number of new parties have registered, including around two dozen formed after the Gen Z movement.

The registrations feature leaders from diverse backgrounds, entrepreneurs, teachers, lawyers, social activists, former mayors, even ex-police chiefs, and representatives from LGBTQ+ and third-gender communities.

According to the Election Commission, these new parties aim to promote good governance and contribute to policy-making, alongside establishing their professional and social initiatives.
Analysts note that the increase in party numbers reflects citizens from various professions entering politics with new plans and ideas.

In the last House election of 2079, 84 parties participated. This year, the number has grown further, and parties registered for direct elections must also apply separately to participate in the proportional system.
