Offerings to Setting Sun to Take Place This Evening on Chhath Festival Main Day

The main day of the four-day Chhath Festival is being celebrated today across Nepal with devotion and enthusiasm.

The festival is dedicated to the Sun God, and devotees will offer prayers and Arghya , a ritual offering of water, fruits, and other sacred items to the sun as a symbol of gratitude and respect to the setting sun this evening.

As part of the rituals, devotees observe fasting, take holy baths and stand in rivers or ponds to offer Prasad and Arghya.

The festival will culminate tomorrow with worship of the rising sun, symbolizing energy, prosperity and well-being.

Chhath Puja, traditionally observed in the Terai-Madhesh districts, has recently gained popularity in the hilly and mountainous areas, including the Kathmandu Valley.

In these districts, as well as in the capital, all ponds and riverbanks.

Large gatherings are taking place at historic ponds across districts of Terai Madhesh.

The Nepal government has given public holiday today in observance of the festival.

Devotees believe that offering Arghya to the Sun brings health, prosperity and protection from ailments.
