Athletes Take on Rugged Himalayan Route in Jumla–Rara Race

The 7th edition of the Jumla–Rara Ultra Marathon kicked off today in Karnali Province, with athletes competing along the challenging mountain route from Jumla to Rara Lake in Mugu district.

The event is organized by the Karnali Sports Club.

Organizers said the marathon aims to promote Karnali Province through sports and develop the trekking route linking Jumla’s Khalanga to Rara Lake as a tourism corridor.

A total of 135 athletes are competing in the 54-kilometre ultra marathon.

In addition, 650 participants are running in the five-kilometre race and 200 in the 10-kilometre category.

Athletes from India, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Italy are taking part in the event.
