All-party Commitment to Maintain Social and Religious Harmony

A collective commitment has been expressed to maintain religious and communal harmony, social unity and peace and security in the society.

In an all-party meeting held in Dhangadhi today under the chair of Kailali Chief District Officer Hiralal Regmi, all stakeholders expressed their commitment to move forward together to prevent any kind of untoward activities in a society that has been living together and united for centuries.

On the occasion, heads and representatives of political parties, Hindus, Muslims, Christians and other religious and social organizations said that they would be work in their respective areas for social harmony and public welfare.

Chief District Officer Regmi said that high alert has been adopted in Kailali to prevent the impact of the activities that have recently taken in some districts of eastern Nepal and Tarai-Madhes.

He shared that the administration is monitoring suspicious activities and movement from the border area and areas where there may be risks, and said that cooperation from all parties is required in this regard.

The leaders of Hindu, Muslim and Christian community stressed that they are aware of the need to prevent any wrongdoing by members of their communities and that those who do wrongdoing should be taken action according to the law.

The meeting has decided to form or reorganize the Inter-religious and Social Harmony Coordination Committee at the sub-metropolitan, municipal and rural municipality levels in coordination with the chiefs and ward chairs of all local levels in the district and mobilize them effectively.

Similarly, it has been agreed that religious gatherings, processions or other programs that only represent one religious community will not be held, and if necessary, prior approval will be obtained, weapons, sticks, spears and other materials will not be displayed or used during religious activities, and activities that will hurt the religious beliefs of another community will not be carried out.

The meeting has decided that if any person or organization disseminates misleading, provocative or hateful material on social media or other means that defames a religious community, legal action will be taken.

Similarly, under the leadership of the Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it has been decided to organize a civic harmony rally on Monday with the participation of political parties, religious communities, professional organizations, media persons, intellectuals, civil society and the general public to spread the message of peace, harmony, mutual respect and national unity.
