Various Civil Service Trade Unions Urge Government Not to Curtail Trade Union Rights

Various trade unions active in the civil service sector have urged the government not to reduce trade union rights in the Federal Civil Service Bill.

They have demanded that full trade union rights be ensured so that all workers can organise and be members of the union of their choice, in accordance with Nepal’s Constitution and the agreements signed and ratified by Nepal at the International Labour Organization.

They have also urged, through a joint statement, to legally strengthen the protection of the rights, participation, and collective bargaining of employees working in public service.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has made public the draft of the bill prepared on the formation, operation, and the service terms and conditions of the federal civil service on Friday, April 24, for necessary suggestions in accordance with the Legislation Act, 2081.

The organisations issuing the joint demand include the Nepal Civil Service Employees Organisation, Nepal Civil Service Employees Union, Nepal National Civil Service Employees Organisation, the Unified Government Employees Association, Nepal Madhesi Civil Service Employees Forum, and the Independent Civil Servants Organisation.
