128 People Arrested for Illegal Acts inside National Park

The Chitwan National Park has arrested 128 people on various charges since the beginning of the current fiscal year.

According to the Park’s Information Officer, Abinash Thapa Magar, the largest number of those arrested are those involved in illegal fishing in the Rapti River. The park arrested and took action against 70 people for fishing illegally. 

Similarly, three people were arrested for attempted poaching of rhinoceros, five for pangolin, 11 for picking fiddlehead fern, 30 for illegally collecting green fodder, one for killing birds, four for entering the national park without permission and four on other involvement in prohibited acts.

During this period, the office has registered four different types of cases in the court. 

The park has decided nine cases in this fiscal year. According to Magar, out of the 26 cases that were transferred from the last fiscal year and one registered this year, nine have been resolved. 

Currently, 18 cases are ongoing. Of the ongoing cases, seven are forest-related cases and 11 are wildlife-related. (RSS)
