Sacred Chhaya Darshan Draws Devotees to Nepal’s Pashupatinath Temple

Devotees thronged the Pashupatinath Temple today to witness Chhaya Darshan, a sacred glimpse of the Shivalinga offered following special worship rituals.
Worshippers were arranged in queues to observe the Shivalinga, according to Pashupati Area Development Trust information officer Anita Bhatta.
The Chhaya Darshan ceremony is held every year on Magha Shukla Chaturdashi, the fourth day of the bright fortnight in the Nepali month of Magha.
The event coincides with a seasonal transition, as winter gradually recedes and the sun begins its northward journey, marking the onset of longer and warmer days.
It is believed that during this seasonal transition, a unique phenomenon occurs at the Pashupatinath Temple, symbolically uniting science, history and spirituality.
According to culture expert Shreekrishna Dangol, the festival represents a distinctive tradition rooted in Nepal’s original tantric practices. (RSS)
