13 Documents Needed for Candidacy Registration

Candidates wishing to contest the March 5 House of Representatives election under first-past-the-post system are filing their contention today at the office of the chief election officer in the constituency concerned.
There are 13 mandatory documents, including citizenship, voter registration, and party nomination letter if recommended by any registered political party among other documents.
Election Commission has warned that incomplete paperwork could lead to disqualification of candidature before the race even begins.
Being a Nepali citizen alone doesn’t guarantee the right to contest the March House of Representatives election under the first-past-the-post system.
If you have not enrolled your name in the voters’ list, it will shut the doors on your dream of contesting the election.
Election Commission has asked candidates to appear with the required documents for filing nominations on Tuesday, January 20 exactly at 10:00 am NST.
According to commission’s spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, candidates must submit a total of 13 types of documents when filing their nomination:
- Copy of Nepali citizenship or voter ID
- Proof of name included in final voters’ list
- Election security deposit of NPR 10,000 (50% waiver for women, Dalit, marginalized & poor)
- Code of Conduct Pledge: Signed commitment to election code of conduct
- Official party nomination letter from authorized political party if party candidate.
- Proof of resignation from government or public post, if any
- Power of attorney, if nomination is submitted by a representative
- One proposer and one seconder from the voter list
- Duly filled self-declaration form as per election directives
- Sealed property disclosure of movable and immovable assets
- Duly filled personal details form
- Proof of repayment of public loans or advances if any
- Proof of clearance of audit related due
Last but not the list, the candidates must ensure that all the documents they have submitted are complete to be eligible for nomination.
