RSP Chair Lamichhane Released from Custody

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), one of the political parties in Nepal, Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane, has been released from custody today following an order by the Butwal bench of the High Court, Tulsipur.

After completing the necessary legal and procedural formalities, Lamichhane has been released. A division bench of Judges Basudev Acharya and Tej Narayan Poudel had ordered Lamichhane’s release on three conditions.

The court’s order specifies that any liability arising from damages must be acknowledged and covered through proper documentation before release.

Lamichhane submitted approximately 10 million rupees that is approximately 60 thousand US dollars as part of bail previously ordered by the District Court, and the High Court has now set the total bail amount at 30.74 million or about 212 thousand US dollars for his release.

The court confirmed that Lamichhane will be released only after bank guarantee verification and completion of all required paperwork.

The former Home Minister has been in custody in connection with the misappropriation of funds from the Butwal-based Supreme Cooperatives.

While he is set to be released, co-accused including former Deputy Inspector General and former Gorkha Media director Chhabilal Joshi remain in custody.
