World Toilet Day : Urging Action on Global Sanitation Crisis

The World Toilet Day is being observed today.
The Day established by the World Toilet Organization in 2001 was later made official with United Nations observation since 2013.
According to the UN Water, the Day is marked to inspire everyone for actions to cope with sanitation crisis. It is worrying that 3.4 billion people are still living without safely managed sanitation in the world.
Every year, UN-Water- the UN’s coordination mechanism on water and sanitation — sets the theme for World Toilet Day. In 2025, the theme is ‘Sanitation in a changing world‘, reminding us that no matter what the future holds, we’ll always need the toilet.
The tagline for the day is ‘We’ll always need the toilet’. No matter what lies ahead, one thing will stay constant – our need for safe sanitation. Today, billions still live without a safe toilet, with the poorest, especially women and girls, most affected. Ageing infrastructure, climate change, and insufficient investment are increasing pressure on sanitation systems.
