Public Service Broadcasting, PSB Nepal, has launched the country’s first dedicated English channel, NTV World, as part of it’s global initiative to share Nepal’s stories to the global audience. The channel was officially inaugurated by president Ramchandra Paudel, in a grand ceremony marking PSB’s first anniversary and formal execution, held at Singhudurbar on Sunday.

President Paudel urged the newly launched channel to act as Nepal’s ambassador to the world, tell its facts, promote its various dimensions including tourism, cultural values and natural abundance.

Similarly, Jagdish Kharel, Ministry of communication and information technology, stated that NTV World is a great initiative for the country, but emphasized to focus on the contents that channel produces, its presentation styles, its efforts, so that proper results can be achieved.

Guests expressed their positive viewpoint about the channel’s inauguration. Dr. Suresh Prasad Acharya, Chief Commissioner, National Information Commission, mentioned that this channel is for the foreigners who want to know about Nepal, but have not been able to access authentic information, NTV World, he said, can bridge that gap.

He also emphasized that the channel can showcase Nepal’s potentialities and support the country achieving prosperity.

Senior journalist, Babita Basnet, said that the channel can play two important roles. First, to inform the international community about Nepal, and second, is to exchange proper information among Nepalis residing abroad. Referring to the recent discussion on voting rights for Nepalis citizens living overseas, Basnet, highlighted that NTV World can fill the information gap for those who are not factual information.

Raju Silwal, former news chief at Nepal Television, expressed hope that Nepalis residing around the globe can get authentic and factual information from this dedicated English channel. Mentioning the information gap faced by Nepalis living abroad, Silwal said that this channel could provide correct updates, information about their homeland, promoting Nepal’s and Nepali culture showcasing the world.

Similarly, Sangita Khadka, Chair, Minimum Wage Fixation Committee, said that such a channel had been needed for a long time in the country. According to her, there was a gap of finding proper analysis from trusted sources about the global issue sometimes. She expressed her positive hope that the global audience will benefit from this channel’s authentic message, news and information about Nepal.

Dr. Mahendra Bista, PSB Nepal’s Chair, mentioned that NTV World is to address the gap of information of Nepal to the global stage through multiple platforms- ranging from traditional satellite broadcasting to new media technologies such as social media networks.
