NEA Cuts Power to 18 More Industries

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has disconnected electricity supply to an additional 18 industries since Friday night for failing to clear their outstanding dues under the dedicated and trunk line services. The move follows an earlier cutoff affecting six other companies.

According to NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal, the affected firms include major manufacturers such as Panchakanya Steel Industries, Goenka Foods, Cosmos Cement Industries, SR Steel Industries, Bishal Cement Industries, and Jagdamba Synthetic Textiles, among others.

The NEA said the total unpaid dues from these industries now exceed Rs 8 billion. While some companies have begun paying in installments, others have filed legal challenges, claiming they did not use dedicated or trunk line connections.

The authority had issued a public notice on September 28, giving industries 21 days to settle their payments. The disconnections, NEA said, were carried out in line with the Electricity Tariff Collection Rules, 2078 BS.

NEA has maintained that it will continue cutting supply to defaulters as part of its drive to recover dues from high-power consumers, several of which have long benefited from preferential supply lines. RSS
