Police Step up ‘Festival-centric Security’

A total of 3,506 police personnel have been deployed in the Kathmandu Valley targeting major festivals like Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath. The police have implemented special security plans to control possible criminal activities and create an environment where citizens can celebrate the festivals safely and without fear.

Spokesperson of the District Police Range Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa, said that security arrangements have been made prioritizing the safety of citizens going out to celebrate festivals, to the market for shopping, and people traveling to various places during the festival.

According to him, out of the police deployed under festival-focused security arrangements, one hundred are in plain clothes. They will monitor public places and crowded areas, identify suspicious activities, and help control potential criminal activities. Besides conducting traditional security patrolling, the police have also prioritized the use of technology.

The Range reported that community service centers, drone cameras, social media, and trained dogs are being used for security monitoring. Thapa said that suspicious activities will be identified and security management will be made more effective by coordinating technology and human resources.

The police have said that the main goal of the security plan is to create an environment where citizens can freely celebrate festivals, as police activity has been increased to control criminal activities. The police have prioritized using technology and coordinating with various agencies along with deploying manpower.

According to the police, using plainclothes officers, drone cameras, and trained dogs is expected to make security monitoring more effective. Meanwhile, the police have urged the general public to stay alert, as their cooperation is also important for controlling potential criminal activities during festivals.
