Precipitation to Further Increase in Western Region in Next Two Days

Rain will increase in the western region over the next two days. Most parts of the country are experiencing rain due to the influence of a low-pressure system developed in the Bay of Bengal, according to the Nepal Meteorological Department. Department meteorologist Rajan Lamichhane informed that in the last 24 hours, most places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces experienced heavy rain, and some places had very heavy rain.

He said that more than 140 millimetres of rainfall was recorded at the Archale weather station in Palpa. Lamichhane said that it has been raining continuously in different areas for the past two days, and because of heavy to very heavy rain in some places, the risk of floods and landslides has increased.

“Currently, a low-pressure system is situated in Chhattisgarh, India, and the surrounding areas, and it is gradually moving towards Nepal. Its influence will start affecting the western regions from today,” meteorologist Lamichhane said.

According to him, rainfall activity is expected to be higher especially in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces today and tomorrow, while it is likely to gradually decrease and the weather is expected to improve in the eastern regions. He said that until Saturday, September 26, the effect of the low-pressure system is expected to move westward, and rainfall activity may increase in Lumbini and the Sudurpaschim Province.

Even though the weather in the eastern region is expected to improve on Sunday, September 27, the western region will still be affected by the system. Weather likely to improve from Sept 28 The Department has forecast the weather across the country to gradually improve from September 28, and the impact of rain is likely to decrease even more from the next day.

Meteorologist Lamichhane said that because weather system can change continuously, the department is monitoring it and will update forecasts and warnings as needed. He has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and take necessary precautions, keeping in mind the risk of floods, landslides, and inundation in areas with heavy rainfall and for which warnings have been issued.
