Rasuwa Flood: 1,355 Bodies Recovered So Far

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMA) stated that as many as 1,355 dead bodies of people who lost their lives to the Bhotekoshi flood have so far been recovered.

According to the NDRRMA, among the recovered dead bodies, 98 have been identified and handed over to their families. NDRRMA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 169 bodies were retrieved from Rasuwa district, 197 from Nuwakot, 70 from Dhading, 75 from Gorkha, 38 from Tanahun, 363 from Chitwan, 222 from Nawalparasi East) and 221 from Nawalparasi West.

Spokesperson Mahat informed that around 4,996 people are still reported missing following the devastating floods. Updated records revealed that around 1,967 Nepali nationals are missing from Rasuwa district and 2,340 from Nuwakot.

Similarly, around 100 security personnel and civil employees, along with approximately 589 foreign nationals, are also reported missing in the disaster that struck on August 26, claiming scores of lives and damaging massive property in districts including Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot and Chitwan.

Among those stranded or trapped due to flood, rescue teams have rescued 13,396 people so far. As of now, a total of 6,672 injured people have received medical treatment, according to the Authority.

Of the 323 injured people treated at various hospitals, 228 have already been discharged. Furthermore, 39 holding centres established in various affected areas are currently housing 3,533 flood survivors.

Of them, 669 are in Rasuwa, 2,651 in Nuwakot, and 213 in Dhading. The government has mobilized altogether 21,402 security personnel for search and rescue efforts, relief distribution and rehabilitation operation as well as security management in the flood-hit areas.

A total of 9,287 security personnel from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force are coordinating efforts on a war footing across the flood-affected areas for effective post-disaster efforts. (RSS)
