Nepal flood death toll rises to 1,114, nearly 4,000 still missing

Nepal’s flood death toll has risen to 1,114, while 3,916 people remain missing after the disaster that struck the country on August 26, according to the latest figures released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The updated figures were released as search and rescue operations continue across the affected districts.

NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 41 bodies had been recovered in Rasuwa, 155 in Nuwakot, 59 in Dhading, 66 in Gorkha, 35 in Tanahun, 177 in Nawalparasi East, 190 in Nawalparasi West and 348 in Chitwan.

A total of 21,314 personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force Nepal have been mobilised for search and rescue operations, the authority said.

So far, 11,993 people have been rescued, while essential food supplies have been transported to affected areas using 37 trucks and 37 smaller vehicles.

Relief materials have also been delivered to affected families by helicopter. The government has released 67.5 million Nepali rupees to 15 flood-affected municipalities, according to NDRRMA.

Authorities are also working to restore fuel supplies and communication services in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.

The latest figures come as Nepal continues rescue and relief operations following the August 26 floods, while authorities remain on alert for further flooding in parts of the country.
