Rasuwa Floods: 669 Bodies Recovered, 2301 Persons Rescued

Total 669 persons have been confirmed dead in the catastrophic flash flood that ripped through Rasuwa district and wiped out the corridors of Bhotekoshi and Trishuli Rivers on August 26. The dead bodies were collected from the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli riverbanks.

Till 4:00pm Saturday, the Nepal Police recorded retrieval of 669 dead bodies, among which, Rasuwa had 13, Dhading 49, Nuwakot 41, Gorkha 54, Tanahu 31, Chitwan 248, Nawalparasi East 158 and Nawalparasi West 75.

Spokesperson and DIG of Nepal Police, Abhi Narayan Kafle, informed that the number of people rescued alive by the security agencies reached 2,301. Among those, 676 are from Rasuwa, while 1,622 from Nuwakot and three from Dhading.

So far, 140 persons injured in the floods were airlifted to health facilities in Kathmandu Valley for treatment. Some of them have been discharged after treatment, Kafle added.

Even the Nepali Army, the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have reported the disappearance of their staffs since the devastation. Number of Nepali Army persons gone missing since tragedy stands at 44, of Nepal Police at 27, of Armed Police Force at 13. Even the employees at Rasuwa Customs Office have been unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations have been intensified with joint efforts of all security agencies since the cascading floods. Even the collection of details on human and physical loss is given priority, according to police official. (RSS)
