Chinese Experts Join Nepal Rescue Effort for Trapped Hydropower Workers

The Nepal government is continuing efforts to safely rescue people trapped inside the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli 3B Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, which has been affected by flooding.

To make the highly risky and technically complex rescue operation more effective, the government has allowed the deployment of a team of highly skilled Chinese technical experts. Following government approval, a six-member Chinese team has been deployed at the site.

The team arrived directly in the Trishuli area by Chinese helicopter and will begin the rescue operation in close coordination and cooperation with the Nepali Army’s technical team.

The joint team will conduct a technical reconnaissance of the situation inside the tunnel and assess the feasibility of the rescue.

If the initial assessment indicates that a rescue is possible, additional Chinese experts kept on standby near the Rasuwa border on the Chinese side will be called to the site immediately.

Despite the extremely challenging conditions inside the tunnel, the Nepal government, Nepali Army and Chinese experts are making every possible effort to safely rescue the trapped workers.
