DHM Forecasts Moderate Risk of Flash Floods in Various Small Rivers in Several Districts

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has warned of possible flash floods in small rivers in the country today.

In the light of the forecast, people living in settlements near the riverbanks and the low-laying areas have been urged to remain alert.

The Department said, water levels at the Kirin River and Bardiya Hydrometric Station have crossed the alert level and are continuing to rise. The Department has advised residents of low-lying areas and areas around the river to remain on high alert, particularly in the evening.

It has forecast the possibility of flash floods in small rivers based in Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavrepalanchowk, Gorkha, Tanahu, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rukum East, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Dolpa, Mugu, Surkhet, Banke, Bardiya, Darchula, Baitadi, Bajhang, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur and surrounding districts.

“Water levels in these rivers may rise significantly and there is a possibility of moderate risk of flash floods,” the Department said in a statement. (RSS)
