Guheshwori Wastewater Treatment Plant Processes 32.4 Million Litres Water Daily

The Guheshwori Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at Guheshwori Phant is treating 32.4 million litres of wastewater daily.

According to Ram Kumar Shrestha, Chief of the Plant, construction of wastewater treatment plants has begun at various locations in the Kathmandu Valley.

Construction of such treatment plants is underway at Sallaghari, Kodku, Dhobighat, Gokarna and Hanumanghat in the Kathmandu Valley, shared Shrestha.

He argued that more wastewater treatment plants are needed to keep the rivers and environment of the Kathmandu Valley clean.

Shrestha emphasized that separate pipeline systems for wastewater and rainwater are necessary to ensure the treatment plants operate at their full capacity for which, he added, that efforts are being coordinated with local governments to develop such systems.

According to him, the treatment of wastewater is often complicated by the presence of materials such as sand, bricks and dead animals.

He attributed the problem to the combined flow of sewage and rainwater into the treatment plants through the same drainage system.

The Chief of the Guheshwori Wastewater Treatment Plant, Shrestha, thus, highlighted the need for improved drainage infrastructure and called for constructing separate systems for sewage and rainwater to make wastewater treatment more effective. (RSS)
