International Day of Friendship Being Marked

The International Day of Friendship is being marked today in various countries of the world by organizing different events.

The theme of the International Day of Friendship 2026 is “Embracing Diversity, Fostering Unity,” highlighting how human connection bridges cultural divides.

The Day is marked every year on July 30 after the UN General Assembly proclaimed the Day in 2011 with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

To mark the International Day of Friendship, the UN has encouraged the governments, international organisations and civil society groups to hold events, activities and initiatives contributing to the efforts of the international community towards promoting a dialogue, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

The UNGA has laid emphasis on involving young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.

The International Day of Friendship is a continuation of ‘Culture of Peace’ concept put forward by UNESCO.

The UNESCO has been emphasizing the promotion of ‘Culture of Peace’ and rejection of violence, addressing the root causes of conflict and resolving problems through the medium of dialogue and cooperation. (RSS)
