Three-Year-Old Killed in Landslide

A three-year-old boy has died after a landslide struck a residential building in Nepal’s remote Mugu district, as monsoon-triggered disasters continue to threaten communities across the Himalayan country.

The landslide, carrying rocks and debris, hit a house in Pulu Bazaar of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality early Saturday morning, according to local police.

The building was owned by Pema Lama and was being rented by a family operating a small hotel business.

The child, identified as Ramesh Baduwal, was pulled from the debris and rushed to the Pulu Health Post but died while receiving treatment.

His parents, Jagnath Baduwal and Srijana Baduwal, sustained minor injuries.

Police and local residents carried out the rescue operation following the landslide, which occurred at around 4:00 a.m. local time, Saturday.

Authorities said four houses were completely destroyed, while eight others remain at risk due to unstable ground.

Residents from the affected area have been evacuated, with some staying with relatives and others taking temporary shelter at the local health post.

Police said further assessments are underway as officials continue to evaluate the damage.
