Renewed Strait of Hormuz Tensions Complicate US-Iran Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran against any attempt to assassinate him, saying on social media that “1,000 missiles are locked and loaded” and aimed at the country, with more to follow if such an attack were attempted.

The warning came as Washington and Tehran prepared for a new round of negotiations in Oman aimed at preserving an interim ceasefire agreement after renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States has called on Iran to publicly guarantee safe passage for commercial shipping through the strategic waterway, while U.S. media, citing unnamed officials, reported that Iranian representatives privately acknowledged recent attacks on commercial vessels were a mistake and blamed them on a rogue internal group.

Iran has not publicly confirmed those reports. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Washington of violating the interim agreement, insisting Tehran had upheld its commitments under the ceasefire.

The latest exchanges follow attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and days of military strikes between the United States and Iran that have put the ceasefire under increasing strain.(Agencies)
