Nepal Embassy in Bangkok Organizes Eye-camp for 1,500 Cambodians

The Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok organized a Free Eye Treatment Camp on July 4–5 at the Provincial Hospital in Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia. The camp was organized in collaboration with the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) and the Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Centre operated by the NNJS.

The Eye Treatment Camp was jointly inaugurated by Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand and Non-resident Ambassador to Cambodia, Dhan Bahadur Olil, and Governor of Kampong Cham Province, Un Chanda.

The camp aims to provide free eye screening, treatment and consultation services to the people of Kampong Cham Province while contributing to the enhanced cooperation between Nepal and Cambodia in the field of health care. Around 1,500 Cambodian nationals are expected to benefit from the Eye Camp.

Prior to the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Oli paid a courtesy call on Governor Un Chanda at the Governor’s Office.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing collaboration in public health, medical education, healthcare services, capacity building, and the exchange of knowledge and best practices between Nepal and Cambodia. They emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional partnerships that would contribute to improving healthcare systems and promoting the well-being of the people of both countries.

The Governor of Kampong Cham Province highlighted the province’s commitment to expanding international cooperation in healthcare and welcomed closer engagement with Nepal in areas of mutual interest. He expressed confidence that cooperation between provincial institutions and Nepali counterparts would create new opportunities for professional exchanges and community-based health initiatives.

Ambassador Oli expressed sincere appreciation to Governor Un Chanda for his invaluable support and leadership in facilitating the successful organization of the camp. He also acknowledged the excellent cooperation of the Provincial Hospital, Kampong Cham, in hosting and implementing the programme.

As part of the continued partnership, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation through capacity-building initiatives, including professional training and exposure opportunities for Cambodian doctors and medical personnel at Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Centre in Nepal.

The Embassy extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Cambodia, the Kampong Cham Chamber of Commerce, Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Centre, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangha, the Provincial Hospital, Kampong Cham, all doctors, medical professionals, volunteers and supporting staff whose dedication and commitment made this initiative possible.

According to NNJS, the eye treatment camp is the first of its kind collaborated by the organisation in Cambodia. (RSS)
