607 Tourists from 34 Countries Missing since Rasuwa Floods

Total 607 foreign tourists from 34 countries are still missing since the Bhotekoshi flash flood that struck Nepal on August 26. Information officer at the Department of Tourism, Suraj Ghimire, informed RSS that 607 foreign tourists, who were travelling to Kailash Mansarovar, Tibet and Gosaikunda, Mustang on the occasion of Janai Purnima festival are unaccounted for since the disaster.

Among those missing persons, 269 are men, 329 women and nine unidentified. Most of the pilgrims gone missing are from neighbouring country, India.

According to the Department, 189 Indian nationals are out of contact since the devastation. Others are- 65 from the USA, 55 from Malaysia , 54 from Ukraine, 37 from China, 33 each from Australia and Latvia, 32 from the UK, 30 from Canada, nine each from Korea and Singapore, eight from Germany, six each from Russia and South Africa, five each from New Zealand and Japan, four from France, three from Kazakhstan, two each from Belarus, Belgiumm Ireland, Italy, Estonia, Portugl, Spain and the Netherlands, and one each from Finland, Philippines, Vietnam, Hungary, Israel, Switzerland, Sweden and Lithuania.

The number of domestic tourists unreachable since the disaster stands at 188. The Nepali tourists had accompanied the foreign tourists as guides and helpers.

The government has continued search and rescue efforts till date. Total 310 foreign nationals were successfully rescued so far. Among them, 258 persons are male and 52 female. Even the relief distribution has been intensified by the local governments and security agencies. (RSS)
