16 Days of Activism : Highlighting the Threat of Digital Abuse

In Nepal, rights advocates and experts are using the global 16-Day campaign against gender-based violence to spotlight the rising threat of digital abuse, particularly targeting women and girls.

This year’s UN theme…“Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls, has resonated strongly in the country, where online harassment and discrimination continue to rise.

At a national event in Kathmandu, representatives from the Women’s Commission, mental-health specialists, and youth groups urged the government to expand digital safety programs, improve economic inclusion, and confront systemic gender discrimination.

Nepal has formally observed the 16-Day campaign since 1997, amid persistent levels of gender-based violence. Advocates say greater digital awareness and stronger legal protection are now essential to safeguarding women both online and offline.
